What you'll see
Red Rocks Park is in the foothills near Morrison. The amphitheatre opened in 1941, sits between large red sandstone formations, and is free to walk around when there's no event. Most tours leave time to climb the rows of seats, see the visitor center and its Performers' Hall of Fame, and look back toward Denver.
Half-day tours (about 4–5 hours) typically add:
- Lookout Mountain for panoramic views (and the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave on some tours)
- The Lariat Loop scenic byway
- Golden, a historic town home to the Coors brewery
- Evergreen Lake or high-alpine Echo Lake on longer versions
How to choose
- Short on time: a 2-hour express tour from downtown (from $45) covers transport and time at the amphitheatre.
- Have a car: a guided walking tour at Red Rocks (from $26.10) adds geology, Indigenous history and music stories.
- First time in Colorado: a half-day foothills tour ($79–$99) gives you the best overview of the mountains near Denver.
- Active: an e-bike tour ($125) links Red Rocks with the dinosaur tracks at nearby Dinosaur Ridge.
Concert-day tip
The amphitheatre closes to visitors ahead of evening shows, so on concert days visits are usually limited to the morning. Check the venue calendar for your date, or pick a morning tour departure.
When to go
Red Rocks is open year-round. Spring and fall are the most comfortable; summer mornings beat the afternoon heat and thunderstorms; and winter days are often sunny and dry at this elevation, though trails can be icy.
