Three hot springs worth the trip
- Indian Hot Springs, Idaho Springs: the closest to Denver at about 32 miles, roughly 30–45 minutes up I-70. It has an indoor mineral pool under a glass dome, private baths and geothermal caves. The private indoor baths and the gender-specific caves are clothing optional.
- Glenwood Hot Springs Resort, Glenwood Springs: about 160 miles west on I-70, roughly 3 hours from Denver. Its Grand Pool is more than two city blocks long and the resort calls it the world's largest hot springs pool. Amtrak's California Zephyr stops across the river, and Bustang serves Glenwood Springs.
- The Springs Resort, Pagosa Springs: about 275 miles from Denver in southern Colorado, so plan an overnight. It has 25 soaking pools along the San Juan River, fed by the Mother Spring, which the resort says is the deepest geothermal hot spring in the world.
